Eritrea has a national programme for clubfoot run by PONTE – Paediatric Orthopaedic Network for Eritrea. Established in 2005, the aim of the programme is to provide timely and effective treatment using the Ponseti method for children born with clubfoot in Eritrea. The main Ponseti clinic is held at Orotta Hospital, a Ministry of Health Children’s National Referral Hospital in the Eritrean capital, Asmara. The programme receives overseas support from ARCHEMED, http://www.archemed.org/ and Charité University Hospital, Berlin.
Foot Abduction Braces, to be used with the Ponseti technique, are produced in Asmara (Cooperation between local Shoemaker (Teklu) and Cheshire Physiotherapy Center Asmara (Tesfaalem Arya).
Since 2006, three training courses have been held for Ponseti practitioners in Eritrea.
